About Frigiliana

Frigiliana 5km North of Nerja is located in Andalusia, Southern Spain and is approximately 50km from Malaga and its airport. Nestled within the Almijara Mountains National Park. Frigiliana is approximately 1000 feet above sea level.

A Moorish village, Frigiliana is set in the foothills of the mountains, the oldest parts of the streets, are cobbled with black and cream coloured pebbles.

The setting offers some of most spectacular views across southern Spain.  5kms north of the popular resort of Nerja and the Mediterranean Sea but still only 50 minutes drive approximately from Malaga with its International Airport.
Frigiliana provides a great location for a quiet and restful holiday. However there are bars, restaurants and shops selling groceries and local crafts.

The village has been awarded the title of the most beautiful and best maintained Andalusian village several times in the past. The picturesque whitewashed houses line the cobbled streets which gently meander their way through this delightful village up towards the castle ruins.

The Mediterranean Sea is only 5 km away and there are plenty of opportunities for active holidays.  In the scenic area around Frigiliana there are an abundance of olive groves, almond orchards, lemon and orange trees. Having one of the mildest climates in Europe during the winter season, frost is very rare in this area with more than 300 days of sunshine.

There are many historical sites worth seeing in this historically rich area of Andalucia, such as the fantastic Palace of Alhambra, the Mosque in Cordoba and the spectacular drip stone caves in Nerja. The population of Frigliana is approximately 2100, and is only a 10 minute drive from the beaches in Nerja.

Frigiliana Shopping

The narrow streets of Frigiliana have many small craft shops where the goods are made by local people. These include basketry, embroidered linens, pottery and jewellery.  In addition there are the usual numbers of gift and souvenir shops where holiday makers can purchase their mementoes. There are no large supermarkets in the village.

Frigiliana Eating

Frigiliana has some excellent restaurants serving mainly traditional food. For more variety, take a short trip to Nerja which has a wide selection of restaurants serving a wide variety of meals. Tapas bars are available and the local wines are pleasant, of a good quality and inexpensive.
